Physics Machine Shop

new machine shop

The Physics Machine Shop is located in North Classroom 3610A, in the back of our Physics Student Projects Lab.

Our machining equipment includes a 3-axis CNC Mill (Southwestern Industries TRAK DPM2), a CNC Lathe (Southwestern Industries TRAK 1630SX), a 3-axis manual vertical knee-mill with digital read out (Sharp HMV), a manual engine lathe, and a bandsaw and drill press. We also have various automatic and hand tools to support machining needs inside and outside the shop.

The machine shop is available for use by anyone in the department (Physics students, faculty, and staff are all welcome), provided they get certified with us. We offer 5 training modules, starting with basic shop safety (required).
