Should You Meet With An Advisor?
Yes! We encourage students to visit with an advisor at least once a year. Advisors can recommend classes, job opportunities, and write recommendation letters. Advisors can also help students navigate the university bureaucracy. Come see us!
What Do Your Advisors Do?
The advisor serves as your personal academic counselor and guide through the program. With your advisor, you organize your degree requirements and develop a plan for your studies. Your advisor can connect you with a whole range of student resources, including career services, financial services, and health and wellness services.
Undergraduate Advising
All declared History majors will have two advisors to guide them:
- The History Department's Undergraduate Advisor will work with you on academic major requirements
- The CLAS Office will assign you an academic advisor who can guide you through university and college policies and procedures, the core curriculum, transfer credit evaluation, and academic warnings and probation.
Both advisors monitor and approve your degree progress and graduation plans.
Our Undergraduate Advisor is Professor Steven Vose. He can answer questions related to major and minor requirements, undergraduate certificates, transfer issues, the honors program, and graduation.

Graduate Advising
Upon admission, entering graduate students should contact the Graduate Advisor who will help them learn about program requirements, department contacts, and university resources. Continuing graduate students should stay in regular contact with the Graduate Advisor throughout their time in the program, working with them to select a capstone faculty advisor and coordinate their plan of study.
