About Ramesh Dhungana
I am an Assistant Teaching Professor of Physics at the University of Colorado Denver, where I teach Physics, Astronomy, and Quantum Computing. My teaching focuses on helping students develop strong conceptual understanding, quantitative reasoning, and experimental skills through interactive, evidence‑based instructional practices.
I received my Ph.D. in Physics from the University of North Dakota in 2009, specializing in condensed matter physics and the Macroscopic Quantume Tunneling. Before joining CU Denver, I taught calculus‑based and algebra‑based physics at Lake Region State College in North Dakota. Earlier in my career, I earned an M.Sc. in Physics from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal, where I also taught mathematical physics and college‑level physics for several years and co‑authored two volumes of algebra‑based physics textbooks. I completed a year‑long, government‑sponsored teacher‑training program and earned a Post‑Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 1998.
At CU Denver, I emphasize active learning and inclusive pedagogy. I regularly incorporate iClicker‑based peer instruction, group problem‑solving worksheets, and learning‑assistant–supported activities to help students master challenging concepts. I also integrate multimedia tools—including short instructional videos, animations, and interactive simulations—to enhance engagement and deepen learning.
My research interests span both quantum information science and physics education research. In quantum computing, I study the macroscopic quantum tunneling, decoherence, and entanglement in superconducting devices. In physics education, I develop interactive, skill‑focused laboratory and classroom materials and investigate their impact on student learning and conceptual change.
