Job Title: Graduate research assistant

Job Description: Participate in fabrication and characterization of nanoscale superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs). Fabrication requires operation of a thermal vacuum deposition system; characterization requires cryogenic measurements either in liquid helium or a dry cryostat. Document all activities. Attend group meetings and perform other relevant tasks (e.g. specifying and ordering components) as assigned.  

Job Class: Student Assistant Level # IV 

Pay Range: $20.25 - $22.00 

Start Date: Upon completion of paperwork ideally August 17, 2026

End Date: December 19, 2026 is, expected to continue through May 2027 at least 

Application Deadline: August 17, 2026

Minimum Requirements: 

3.0 minimum cumulative GPA

Completed PHYS 2331 (preferred) or PHYS 2020 (accepted) with grade B- or better

Availability for weekly group meetings, presently 11:00 AM - noon every Tuesday

Minimum 8 hr/week availability

Contingent upon receipt of work-study funding

Preferred Requirements: 

Cumulative GPA greater than 3.5

Experience with analog electronics and/or high-performance sensors

Experience with basic test and measurement instrumentation (function generator, oscilloscope)

Experience with FFT spectrum analyzer

Experience with operation of superconducting devices

Up to 15 hr/week availability
