In 2025, National History Day in Colorado (NHDC) reached a milestone, engaging over 20,000 students statewide through the University of Colorado Denver. Operating under the theme of "Rights & Responsibilities in History," the program successfully sent a 58-student delegation to the National Contest in Maryland to compete among 3,000 global participants. Beyond competition, NHDC expanded its Curriculum Corner to include 2025 resources on COMBAT Medicine & the Military and prepared for the 2026 launch of the Colorado LGBTQ History Project. Community support reached new heights with the "Back to School, Forward to History" campaign, which featured a $30,000 matching gift from the Gilson Family Foundation to fuel student research and classroom resources. High school participants also gained a competitive edge by earning three transferable college credits (HIST 1400) through the CU Succeed program, bridging the gap between secondary education and university rigor. Additionally, the program secured a nearly $2 million U.S. Department of Education grant to expand civic education and professional development in rural and underserved areas. The program continued to foster professional growth through teacher training and research grants, reinforcing its role in preparing Colorado’s youth for informed citizenship.
