Judith Martinez received her Bachelor of Arts in 1984 from CU Denver having studied History and Ethnic Studies. Martinez went on to receive her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning in 2001 from CU Denver. Martinez said that she has always been drawn to the personal connections one makes through shared history. Martinez often interviewed her elders when she was a small child. In college, studying history helped her gain essential skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and inquiry and analysis. This has helped her on her career path as an educator, creating programs to promote student engagement.
Martinez serves the Colorado community through Family and Community Education and Support and the Colorado Department of Education. She is committed to improving the health and well-being of all Coloradans through her work in dropout prevention and student re-engagement. On behalf of the History Department, and from CU Denver as a whole, we thank Martinez for her contributions to our community. The University of Colorado Denver presented Martinez with the Alumni Recognition Award in the Fall of 2017.
