Each year, the History Department honors various exceptional students with awards to celebrate and support their scholarship. These were the Spring 2025 recipients of each award:
- Mark Foster Scholarship - Britney Berlin
- Koch Fellowship - David Allen and Colin Hayward
- Ward Family Prize - Kira Boatright and Jolie Diepenhorst
The History Department is also proud to announce that the Ward Family Prize celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. Tom and Judy Ward established this scholarship to award students who promote public history in honor of Tom’s aunt, Louisa Ward Arps. A librarian who dedicated her life to the promotion of Denver’s historical interpretation, she published Denver in Slices in 1958, which remains a relevant and engaging contribution to the scholarship on this city’s history. This scholarship has been awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, who have promoted history among the public to foster a sense of place and appreciation of the past as a guide to the future.
