Mais received her BA in 2019 and her MA in 2020. She is a Student Success Advisor II at 2U, Inc., an educational technology company that contracts with non-profit colleges and universities to offer online degree programs. Student Success Advisors are responsible for managing student retention through proactive, reactive, comprehensive and exceptional customer service. We assist students with on-boarding to include online orientation, registration, and live training, as well as conducting Welcome Calls with students immediately upon enrollment. We analyze program and student data to estimate credit pacing and raw credit productions, including intuitive reasoning to forecast anticipated enrollments appropriately. Similarly, we are accountable for student retention and credit goals, and implement strategies as directed to positively impact key metrics (i.e.: graduation rates, student satisfaction, student retention goals, and credit generation). Student Success Advisors are representatives of the University Partners, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to produce positive outcomes for students.
In 2019, Beth received her MA in Sociology. Clayton began his doctoral studies in sociology at the University of Maryland - College Park in Fall 2020. He plans to concentrate on social demography and medical sociology, with a focus on health and health outcomes for sexual minority populations.
Anne received her BA (2013) and her MA (2015) in Sociology. She holds a position as marketing coordinator at Engineering Economics, Inc. This Denver firm specializes in verifying that building systems achieve building owners’ and architects’ intended designs, which often involves increasing the facility’s sustainability. Anne’s work focuses on proposal development, and marketing for the company’s website, social media, and event presentations. She attributes her success in a STEM industry to the statistical and writing skills she developed studying sociology.
In 2013, Tanya received her BA in Sociology. She is now working as the Director of Litigation Support, University Council, in the University of Colorado system.
Summer graduated in December 2019 with a BA in Sociology, which she completed entirely online after transferring to CU Denver from Front Range Community College. She also earned a certificate in Criminology from the Sociology Department. Summer is currently a case manager for North Metro Community Services where she advocates for and provides services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She credits her successful job search to experience gained as an intern with the Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder County where she worked with homeless families.
Gracie completed her MA degree in Sociology in December 2018. She was selected as the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Outstanding MA Graduate for the 2018 December Graduation. Gracie’s MA thesis, “Two Roads, Converged: The Intersection of Work, Family and Health for Working Mothers,” was completed under the supervision of Dr. Adam Lippert. Throughout her graduate studies, Gracie was employed full-time with the ACCORDS group at Anschutz School of Medicine, as a Senior Professional Research Assistant. Her employment and graduate training led to several research accomplishments, including a lead-authored article in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, and co-authorship on several other publications currently under review. Gracie presented research papers at five conferences, including the Meetings of the Eastern Sociological Society and the Gerontological Society of America. In April 2018, she earned a 2nd place prize in the Arts and Humanities Oral Presentation division at CU Denver’s RaCAS event. Gracie was accepted with full funding to the PhD program in sociology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her doctoral studies focus on biodemography and work-family structures as they pertain to long-term health.
Christine received her MA in 2018. She is a Social Caseworker for the City & County of Denver, working with at-risk youth and girls at risk for human trafficking.
Sarah received her MA in Sociology in 2018 – she currently works with the Colorado Evaluation and Action Lab connecting research to person-centered services in Colorado and building partnerships between the research community and state and local government. As Staff Researcher/Project Coordinator with The Lab, Sarah conducts research and program evaluation to support evidence-building and innovative approaches in school districts, charter schools, and institutions of higher education. Sarah built a well-rounded skillset during her time in the Master's program that has enabled her to apply rigorous qualitative and quantitative techniques and theoretical grounding to her work. Sarah credits the mentorship she received in the program for helping her explore the many opportunities that are possible post-graduation, and for supporting her in developing expertise in her interest areas of mixed methods research, education policy, social systems, and community engagement.
Jen received her BA in 2020 – she is an Intake Caseworker for Rocky Mountain Human Services. Jen feels the required Senior Capstone course she took with her last semester prepared her very well for her first post-graduation job interview, which led to a job offer for her position at Rocky Mountain Human Services.
Kendall received her BA in Sociology in Fall 2020. She is a Senior Program Associate at Impact Justice.
Danielle received her MA in 2019 - she is a qualitative researcher with the Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) department at CU Denver-Anschutz/Children's Hospital Colorado. In this position, she contributes to a NHLBI-funded project gathering data on pediatric asthma management needs in rural counties of Colorado to assess implementation climate readiness for a school-based asthma management program. Her coursework in health disparities, population health, and health care systems gave her a deep understanding of how social disparities and structural inequality affect individual well-being, and the sociology MA program's flexibility to explore both quantitative and qualitative methodologies provided her with versatile research capabilities that can be applied in both academic and private sectors.

AnQuanette received her BA in Sociology in May 2017. She has since been working at CU Denver as a Human Resources Professional in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.
Veronica received a minor in Socioloy (English major). She has since been working at the Community College of Aurora in Academic Affairs. She supports the Chairs and students of Business, Computer & Digital Technology, and Skilled Trades. She finds it very rewarding being able to work with such a diverse student population and to be able to apply skills from Sociology to her work. She reports that one of the most helpful lessons she learned was about implicit/hidden biases, which she continually looks at and encourages everyone to explore in their work.
