UHL Students Step-up to Serve DPS Students

Published: May 6, 2014

This semester, University Honors and Leadership (UHL) students  Pratibha Anand, Anna Astashchanka, Adam Blair, Mirissa Price and Miriam Sarwana established a partnership Denver Public Schools to establish a new initiative: Crafting Yourself. The program engages middle school students in an after-school creative environment that demonstrates and cultivates the importance of self-awareness and appreciation.

Starting in January, the program settled in at the STRIVE Prep Lake Campus. "We selected STRIVE Prep Lake Campus, as the population is largely minority and on free and reduced lunch; this location is thus truly appreciative of the volunteer program," said Price. "Further, the students at STRIVE Prep do not currently have a fine arts curriculum, enabling Crafting Yourself to dually offer a creative outlet and a personal development program in a single, enjoyable format."
