This course examines ethical issues in contemporary health care in the United States through engagement with rival ethical viewpoints at the core of today’s bioethical discussions. Philosophical and faith-based foundations, as well as a range of ethical theories, socio-cultural influence, professional codes, and organizational and personal ethical norms are explored.

Case studies and topics are analyzed to develop competence in moral reflection and ethical decision-making with consideration of personal, professional and societal values. Students will learn to articulate their own views in conversation with contemporary health care ethics, and students learn how to discuss and debate contentious issues with their classmates.
