Every year, the department honors the legacy and memory of CU Professor Honi F. Haber by hosting a distinguished speaker. Topics of past lectures have included "Public Artworks in Public Spaces: A Paradoxical Criterion for their Evaluation" and "Addicts' Stories and Knowledge: Epistemic Authority in Effective Treatment".
The UCD Philosophy Department holds a colloquium series each fall and spring semester. All lectures are free and open to the public, and speakers range from our department faculty to philosophers from around the world. The lecture series is a great way to learn about current research and to get to know the philosophical interests of our faculty and students, as most lectures are followed up by discussion. Philosophy students also have exclusive access to the DVD recordings of past department lectures.
The club seeks to stress the exploratory, open-ended side of philosophy. Every conversation ought to be an opportunity - a way to discover and discuss more. We encourage all participants to bring any questions or papers they might want to discuss. All Auraria students and faculty members are welcome (and encouraged!) to attend. Club Meeting Schedule: every Thursday at 5:00 pm in Plaza M108A (Philosophy Department Suite) Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jeff Golub
The Ethics Bowl competition is a nation-wide debate pitting the best and brightest analytical thinkers and arguers from colleges and universities around the nation. Each competition addresses such issues as raising the minimum wage, exploitation of unpaid student internships, Stand Your Ground statutes, and the safety of transgender students in bathrooms and locker rooms.
