History Now and Then

By

History Now and Then is our department's blog platform. Here we post updates regarding our outreach and highlight the publications of our faculty and students. The blog was created in 2015, and we are always looking for contributing writers. If you are a CU Denver History Student and you would like to write an article for our blog about your reserach or one of our faculty member's publications please conact the History Department.

Dr. Rebecca Hunt recently celebrated releasing her latest publication, Casper Chronicles II. Dr. Hunt traveled to Wind City Books in Casper, Wyoming for a special book signing on December 17th.

In December, Dr. Pam Laird published “How business historians can save the world from the fallacy of self-made success” as the lead article in a special issue on narratives in the British journal Business History. She tracks the history of the self-making concept from its original sense of community-serving self-improvement to its modern glorification of individual ambition. She also examines some of the political consequences of that shift in meaning.

We were thrilled to welcome new members to our Phi Alpha Theta family as well as celebrate our Fall 2016 graduates at our recent History Holiday Reception! Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the fun and festive cheer!

Every year the History Department honors stand-out students with an award ceremony. This year's scholarship and award recipients were lucky enough to attend the ceremony at Dana Crawford Downtown Denver Loft. Our fabulous host provided appetizers and drinks for our students and faculty to enjoy while mingling.

On Friday August 31st the History Department held its annual welcome back celebration for returning students.

The event was held at the Rhein Haus Denver, in Market Square.  Faculty and students joined together over food and competitive games of bocce ball. This event helps us set our eyes on the goals of the new semester. First and foremost the History Department is here to support its students success. This fun event is only one of the many ways in which our faculty step outside of the traditional classroom to engage students.
