You should talk to your advisor and/or the Director of Graduate Studies each semester about the courses you plan to take. Consult the Degree Requirements to make sure you're on track.
Here is a sample suggested schedule for completing the MA program’s 30 credits (10 courses) in 2 years as a full-time student. You are also welcome to spend more time at any stage by taking fewer credits per semester; many students complete the program on a part-time basis.
Year 1
Fall (6 credits)
- COMM 6013 Introduction to Graduate Work in Communication
- 1 COMM elective: a bridge course (4/5000), take at 5000 level
Spring (6 credits)
- COMM 5221 Research Methods: Qualitative
- 1 COMM 6711 seminar or 1 elective
Summer (3 credits)
- COMM 5939: Internships or a Travel Study course or another elective
Year 2
Fall (9 credits)
- 1 COMM 6711 seminar
- 1 elective
- COMM 5939 Internships or COMM 6700 Projects, if you have not taken one of these already
Spring (6 credits)
- 1 COMM 6711 seminar
- 1 elective
- Present your Project or internship at the symposium (0 credits)
What will be offered in future semesters?
The course schedule depends on many different factors so unfortunately we can't guarantee anything. However, we do know that the intro course (COMM 6013) is typically offered in the Fall and the methods course (COMM 5221) will usually be offered in the Spring, both in the evenings.
One 6711 Special Topics seminar (in faculty areas of expertise) will usually be offered each Fall and Spring semester, also in the evenings. The special topics for these seminars are sometimes only offered once, and sometimes repeat every 3-4 years.
As for the electives, courses offered the previous Fall tend to mostly -- but not always -- repeat the following Fall; ditto for Spring.
