From 2001 to 2005, he served in management positions for a Washington, DC-based provider of analytical support services to U.S. and international clients in government and industry. Since 2005, he has been affiliated with the National Consortium for the Study or Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) – a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence based at the University of Maryland.

Hamilton Bean, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Colorado Denver specializing in organizational communication. He is also the Director of the International Studies Program. His research intersects the fields of organizational discourse and security. From 2001 to 2005, he served in management positions for a Washington, DC-based provider of analytical support services to U.S. and international clients in government and industry. Since 2005, he has been affiliated with the National Consortium for the Study or Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) – a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence based at the University of Maryland. His research has been published in Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Intelligence and National Security, International Communication Gazette, Southern Communication Journal, Homeland Security Affairs, Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and the International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence. He has won awards for scholarship from the National Communication Association and the Western States Communication Association. He earned the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Annual Award for Excellence in Service and Leadership in 2017 and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Annual Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activities in 2018.
