Paper on Gsk-3 and DNA methylation published in Molecular Biology of the Cell

We recently had a paper accepted at Molecular Biology of the Cell describing the effects of Gsk-3 deletion on DNA methylation in the entire genome of mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Performed in collaboration with scientists at Life Technologies (now Thermo Fisher), the data revealed significant reductions in DNA methylation at a majority of known imprinted loci in the Gsk-3-deficient ESCs. Because of the connection between Gsk-3 activity and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and bipolar disorder (BPD), we are now investigating whether similar changes in DNA methylation occur in human neuronal cells and cells derived from patients with AD and BPD.
