Urban Citizen Celebrates 20th Year Anniversary
This Fall, the Department's Urban Citizen program, started by professors Jerry Jacks and Jana Everett, celebrated its 20th year of service to the Denver community. The Urban Citizen connects dozens of political science students every year to service-learning opportunities in low-income and often marginalized communities in the Denver area. Over the years, the Urban Citizen has worked with programs ranging from the Four Winds Indian Center to low—income tenant organizing to fundraisers for non-profits to Christmas toy donation drives.
Today, Instructor Harvey Bishop organizes and teaches the Urban Citizen class. In the photograph, alumni of the Urban Citizen program over the last twenty years gather at Harv Bishop's house for a celebration BBQ. In addition to the BBQ, the Urban Citizen program organized a day of service with the Denver Indian Center as a way of celebrating 20 years of service to the Denver community.
