Yoder presents collaboratively on study abroad and food
On April 3, senior instructor in communication e.j. Yoder (along with CU Denver's senior director of international programs, John Sunnygard; and director of the Barcelona Study Abroad Experience Rich Kurtzman) presented a workshop titled "Know Food, Know Culture" at the annual Forum Education Abroad Conference in San Diego. The workshop provided a variety of tools and techniques for faculty and staff to deepen a student's study abroad experiences. The workshop explored the fundamental role of food in understanding culture, another culture's food ways and promoted food discussions as essential to the study abroad experience. CU Denver's Global Study programs in Spain and Guatemala were used as models to explore food as a vehicle to understand culture, social justice, globalization and personal identity. Yoder and Sunnygard will conduct a similar workshop for CU Denver faculty and staff in the fall.
