Keranen guest edits journal
Lisa Keränen, associate professor of communication, guest edited a special issue of the Journal of Medical Humanities on "Medicine, Health, and Publics," which demonstrates how a rhetorical understanding of publics offers conceptual, methodological, and practical benefits to health humanities scholars. Individual essays explore how various publics seek to influence medical/health knowledge and practice across cases that span vaccine refusal and public pharmaceutical hearings through controversial medical counter-publics and notions of healthy citizenship. The afterword by J. Blake Scott explores infrastructure and embodiment as they relate to the interfaces between publics and health. The issue includes a discussion guide for classes and reading groups.
