Classroom Culture: Values
Café Pédagogique is an informal meeting for conversation surrounding teaching and learning. Café Ped is based on the Café Scientifique, which in turn is based on the French Café Philosophique. In the Café Ped, people come together in a friendly and relaxed environment and hear informal presentations on interesting educational topics, each led by someone who cares (loves, hates) deeply about it. After each presentation there are 15-20 minutes or so of questions and answers and general discussion. As such, there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to participate. And all questions are welcomed.
This month’s Café Ped will address the second of four interlinked aspects of classroom culture: ATTITUDE. How does our attitude enhance learning in our classrooms? Doris Kimbrough will lead the discussion. Here are some questions to think about:
1.How can you minimize student anxiety? When should you?
2.How can you make your students feel successful?
3.How do we get to know our students in a large lecture setting?
4.Should your attitude be different for an upper division or graduate class compared to an introductory class? For a larger versus a smaller class?
